Concert in Klezmer
A lyrical and vivacious program showcasing Lisa and some of her closest Klezmer collaborators.
Drawing initially from a core group - Ilya Shneyveys, Matt Darriau, Michael Sarin, Christina Crowder, Pete Rushefsky, Lauren Brody, Will Holshouser, Raffi Boden, and David Licht - the band can be as small as a trio, or as large as an orchestra with multiple strings and horns.
The material for the "Concert" has been culled from the klezmer-centric journey that Lisa embarked upon when she joined the Klezmatics, as well as feature spots to highlight the repertoire of the other musicians.
It includes songs in English and Yiddish, doynas (free metered, highly ornamented pieces), and freylekhs (dance tunes), in settings that move from traditional to improvisational in a spell-binding weave.

Lisa’s Pieces’ Bluegrass-y Revival
In the 90’s, backstage at Ben Freed’s Muscoot Farm Bluegrass Festival, Mark Murphy, Michael Sassano, Wayne Fugate, and Lisa Gutkin gathered for a jam. Lisa pulled out one of her quirky originals and a huge crowd collected. When Ben came around to see what the commotion was about, “Lisa’s Pieces” was born and on stage 20 minutes later. Years later the four still get together whenever they can to lovingly reform their impromptu band, with its foot stomping, Irish-y, Jewish-y, Bluegrass-y special something that Lisa is so well known for.
From Here On In
With hints of Celtic, Klezmer, and American folk styles, Lisa demonstrates a mastery of tenor guitar, fiddle, voice and songwriting! This six song EP, produced by John Lissauer, features Lisa’s long time collaborators Will Holshouser, and Cillian Vallely, as well as Buddy Cage, Byron Isaacs, and a host of other fantastic musicians.
